Introducing our Partner for Native American Heritage Month

Bright sunburst surrounded by colorful woven borders inspired by traditional patterns.

This Native American Heritage Month, we are proud to partner with Alana Yazzie, the creative force behind The Fancy Navajo. Since launching her blog in 2014, Alana has shared her journey as a contemporary Diné/Navajo woman living in Phoenix, Arizona, while staying deeply connected to her roots in Northwest New Mexico. Her work is a celebration of culture, tradition, and creativity, brought to life through recipes, fashion, gardening, and lifestyle content infused with her Navajo heritage.

Food is at the heart of Alana’s storytelling. With a passion for developing innovative and approachable recipes, she highlights Indigenous and Southwestern ingredients in ways that feel both modern and comforting. Her vibrant photography and bright, joyful style capture the spirit of everyday Navajo life, showcasing the breadth of Indigenous traditions and peoples that continue to thrive after thousands of years.

In 2024, Alana published her first book, The Modern Navajo Kitchen, which further reflects her dedication to sharing the flavors and stories of her community. Whether through experimenting with traditional recipes, encouraging others to support Indigenous food producers in their area, or tending her garden, Alana invites others to embrace their culture wherever they live.

We are honored to share Alana’s story and recipes throughout this month, including a collection of enticing recipes and an in-depth Q&A about her work and life story. You can follow her journey on Instagram @TheFancyNavajo, Facebook @TheFancyNavajoBlog, and at TheFancyNavajo.com.
